 PILATES & STUDIO FAQ
Picture

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise that uses muscular strength. Its low-impact movements can increase flexibility, mobility, stability, and endurance. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength, and muscle balance.  Pilates is named after its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises and equipment in the 1920s.
A Pilates routine generally includes exercises that promote core strength and stability, mobility, and muscle control. It also includes activities that stress proper posture and movement patterns and balanced flexibility and strength.
PILATES BREATHING - Every Pilates exercise has a specific breathing pattern assigned to it. Consistent breathing is vital for proper muscle balance, mechanics, and flowing movement
. In addition, focused breathing can help maximize the body's ability to stretch, maintain body control, and increase range of motion.

I'm new to Pilates.  How do I start?
We recommend taking private sessions first.  To execute Pilates exercises correctly, and with precision, there is a lot of information to remember. One-on-one private sessions are necessary to impart enough of this information so you can get a good foundation in how the exercises should be performed.  Additionally, every-body is different so private sessions can facilitate the knowledge of any modifications that you might need due to injuries or ailments.  Having this solid foundation will provide greater benefits should you choose to do group classes later for not only you,and for others in class.

I'm pregnant.  Is Pilates good for me?

Always consult with your doctor when doing physical activity during your pregnancy. If you have been doing Pilates before your pregnancy, it can be great to keep your practice going but we recommend doing private sessions so proper modifications can be made for your changing body.

What type of payment methods do you take?
We take Cash, Check, and all major Credit Cards: Visa, Master Card, Discover & American Express.  Gift Certificates are also available.

What should I wear?
Come to your Pilates session dressed in whatever you are most comfortable in.  Slim fitting exercise pants or leggings and a slim fitting top are ideal.  Please no belt buckles, zippers, or jewelry that could damage the equipment.
No need to bring your own mat.

Will I get sweaty when I do Pilates?
Pilates is not an overly cardio workout, especially in the beginning of your practice.  The sweat and heat that Pilates stimulates comes from your deep muscles and is very different than superficial workout sweating that you will be accustomed to.  Do not fret if you don’t sweat!  When it comes to Pilates this does not mean that you did not work correctly.  You are still creating beautiful lean muscles.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Coastline Pilates, This is the only studio I've been to where the workouts are not "cookie-cutter" but rather customized for the group in front of the instructor.  This variety keeps the workout fresh and keeps the participants focused and present.  Prevents going into "auto-mode".  I can count on the workout taking care of my body as it feels that day and the instructors being flexible and knowledgeable enough to be able to create an effective workout. -Paula S.

I love Coastline Pilates because of the quality instructors and its welcoming environment.  It's friendly, (humorous, there is always laughter), professional, and non judgmental. -Joanne G.

My favorite thing about Coastline Pilates is the fellowship I feel every time I walk in the door. You all care about your clients and it shows. -Paige L.
